Halloween is right around the corner, and that means it's time to grab some popcorn, turn down the lights, and indulge in some of the most thrilling, creepy, and terrifying movies the horror genre has to offer. Whether you're a die-hard horror fan or just want to watch a few spooky flicks, Halloween is the perfect time to indulge in all things scary.
1/ The Substance
“At any age, we can find something wrong with ourselves that can make us feel like monsters,” writer-director Coralie Fargeat recently told Vogue—and there’s definitely a monstrous side to this Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley-led film about a downtrodden fitness icon who turns to a black-market treatment called Substance to create a younger, better version of herself. Be warned: gore ahead!
2/ I Saw The TV Glow
While writer-director Jane Schoenbrun's compelling and controversial film about two teenagers haunted by a late-night TV show called The Pink Opaque isn't quite as scary as some of the other films on this list, it's certainly disturbing.
3/ Trap
No one can pull off a plot twist like M. Night Shyamalan, and this film—which prominently features the director's daughter Saleka as a Taylor Swift-like pop artist named "Lady Raven"—is a prime example of his ability to get people talking about horror movies.
4/ Longlegs
An FBI agent gets drawn into the world of the paranormal while trying to catch a serial killer in this 1990s thriller starring Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe and Blair Underwood.
5/ MaXXXine
Set during the Night Stalker murders in Los Angeles in 1985, this A24 film stars Mia Goth as an aspiring horror film actress and porn star who enters an increasingly chaotic nest on the set of her first real movie.
6/ Tarot
This supernatural thriller looks at what might happen if the characters from a deck of tarot cards all came back to life and started hunting down a group of college friends. It's fun to watch!
